UFC 269 Betting Preview

The UFC are serving up an early Christmas present for MMA fans this weekend - UFC269. Two Championship fights are taking place with Oliveira v Poirier for the mens lightweight belt and Nunes v Peña for the women's bantamweight belt.

So, without further ado, let’s cut to the chase and take a look at the interesting betting markets out there.

Charles Oliveira v Dustin Poirier

Both Oliveira and Poirier have taken the long road to get to this championship fight - both having been in the UFC for over 10 years and both having suffered multiple losses and ups and downs. However, this has also given them bags of experience and lessons to draw from in the latest match up... not to mention making them both fan favourites.

Both fighters are going to be super confident coming into this fight - Oliveira knocked-out Michael Chandler to win the vacant lightweight belt and Poirier has beat Conor McGregor in his past two fights - becoming the first person to knock out McGregor and earn a massive pay day.

So, what are the bookmakers suggesting? Currently, Betfair is best odds on both Oliveira and Poirier pricing them at 2.34 and 1.72 respectively*. Poirier is favourite, however, not by much.

Amanda Nunes v Julianna Peña

Amanda Nunes, a.k.a the G.O.A.T of women's UFC and current two division belt-holder... versus TUF winner Julianna Peña. Peña is five wins for seven fights in the UFC, whereas Nunes is on a twelve fight win streak and hasn’t lost in the UFC since 2014.

Nunes is clearly the massive favourite and this is reflected at the bookmakers. Current odds: Nunes 1.06 with Peña at 9.02* (Betway)! It’s fair to say it would be a huge upset for Peña to win... but then it does happen from time to time.

Cody Garbrandt v Kai Kara-France

Former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt is taking on #6 ranked flyweight Kai Kara-France in a flyweight bout. This will be Cody’s first fight at flyweight so there’s plenty of intrigue for fans.

Both fighters are known for their speed, so expect a super high paced fight with a large amount of stand up fighting.

The current odds favour Garbrandt at 1.65 (Betway) against 2.25 for Kar-France (Betway)*. The value in this fight will be picking a method of victory - here at FightBets we like Garbrandt by Knockout for 2.88 (Paddy Power)*.

Rualian Paiva v Sean O’Malley

Self-styled “Unranked champ” Sean O’Malley has been getting some stick recently for constantly taking easy fights - in Sean’s eyes he thinks what’s the rush to shoot up the rankings when he can take easy fights, get a decent pay day and usually another knockout for his highlight reel.

Although Paiva (or anyone in the UFC for that matter) won’t be a walk in the park for O’Malley, it’s hard to see this fight going the distance or O’Malley loosing.

So, we’re going to take O’Malley to win by knockout for 2.1 at Paddy Power*

UFC 269 Parlay/Accumulator

We’re going for the following:

  • Poirier to win
  • Nunes to win
  • Garbrandt by KO
  • O’Malley by KO

Currently returns are around 10/1.

Good luck and let us know how you get on in the comments.
